Lightning to Open Season at Bridgeport Tournament on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11
WILMINGTON, Del. – A challenging 26-game regular season schedule, which includes a pair of in-season tournaments and 11 home games, awaits for the Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team for the 2012-13 season as announced by Coach Chuck Hammond.
“With the quality of the teams in our conference getting better every year and a tough non-conference schedule, our players will be tested early and often during the 2012-13 season,” Hammond said. “I am very excited to see how our young team responds.”
The Lightning will open the season on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 at the University of Bridgeport Men’s Basketball Classic with games against Southern Connecticut State University and Adelphi University.
On Saturday, Nov. 17, the Lightning begins their home schedule by welcoming Bentley University to the Jones Center for a 1 p.m. non-conference game before starting the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference slate with a home game against the University of the Sciences on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.
“Our team will be challenged very early this season by playing in the University of Bridgeport Tournament and then facing Bentley University in our home opener,” Hammond said.
After playing in the Nova Southeastern Tournament on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24, the Lightning will continue a five-game road trip by playing at Mercy College on Nov. 28. The Lightning will make a brief return to CACC play on Nov. 30 at Concordia before traveling to Millersville on Dec. 5.
Goldey-Beacom will return to the Jones Center on Dec. 8 to host Caldwell College in a CACC game at 3 p.m. before making the short trip to Wilmington University for a CACC match-up against the Wildcats two days later.
Following a home non-conference game against Washington Adventist University on Dec. 16, the Lightning will play back-to-back road games at Chestnut Hill College (Dec. 19) and Bloomfield College (Jan. 5).
The Lightning will host Wilmington on Jan. 8, which will be followed by a CACC game at Holy Family University on Jan. 12. After returning home on Jan. 15 to host Chestnut Hill, the Lightning will have an eight-day break before visiting Philadelphia University on Jan. 23.
Post University will visit the Jones Center on Saturday, Jan. 26 for a CACC contest before the Lightning head back on the road to face the University of the Sciences on Jan. 29.
The Lightning will return home for a pair of home games on Feb. 2 and Feb. 6 against Felician College and Lincoln University, respectively.
After back-to-back CACC road games at Nyack College (Feb. 9) and Dominican College (Feb. 16), the Lightning will finish the regular season with a pair of home games against Philadelphia University (Feb. 19) and Holy Family (Feb. 23).
The CACC quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, Mar. 2 at the sites of the higher seeds before moving to the University of the Sciences on Mar. 8 and Mar. 9 for the semifinals and championship game. The CACC champion will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The Lightning, who have won the CACC South Division title in each of the last two years, posted an 18-11 record last season and advanced to the CACC Championship Game for the third straight year.
