Camden County Parks are Smoke Free
The Camden County Freeholder Board needs your help in keeping Camden County Parks smoke-free. Freeholder Jeffrey Nash held a press conference this week at Berlin Park with The American Cancer Society to launch a public awareness campaign on the park’s no Smoking policy. The Freeholder Board is especially concerned about smoking around the parks’ playgrounds, where children can be affected. Click here for more information and for pictures from the event. 


Mobile Ventilation Unit assists First Responders
Camden County has acquired a new Emergency Mobile Ventilation Unit through the Office of Emergency Management. The unit, purchased with Homeland Security and Port Security Funds, is the only one of its kind on the East Coast. It gives the region’s firefighters and first-responders greater control over the environment inside a structure by allowing them to regulate the movement of smoke, heat and harmful gases during an emergency. 

Camden County Military Service Medal Presentation
Freeholder and Merchantville resident, Carmen Rodriguez, will present seven Camden County Military Service Medals to veterans, and their surviving family members, during Merchantville’s 14th Annual Car and Bike Show on Saturday, July 21, at 5:00 PM in the Merchantville town gazebo.

Events in the Parks
Don’t miss the great family entertainment in Camden County’s Parks this coming week. The fun kicks off this weekend as the WXPN-FM Music Festival rocks the Camden Waterfront. On Saturday, July 21, the Top Rod Bassmasters 17th Annual Bass Buddy Tournament will take place on the Cooper River. On July 25, Baze & His Silly Friends entertain the kids at 10:30 AM, and the Dunwells with special guest Sahara Smith take the stage at 7:30 PM at Haddon Like Park. On July 26, strut to the Ferko String Band at 8:00 PM in Cooper River Park. On July 27, the Leon Jordan Quintet presents the best in jazz and R&B at Camden County College in Blackwood at 8:00 PM. Camden County 4-H BBQ Contest
The Camden County 4-H Rib Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, August 4 at 134 North Grove Street in Berlin. Visit www.camdencounty.com for rules and regulations. The deadline for entry is July 23, 2012.

Road Closure Gibbsboro-Kirkwood Road
The intersection of Gibbsboro-Kirkwood Road (CR684) and Hilliards Road will be closed daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for underground utility work. Please plan alternant routes.

Berlin-Cross Keys Road Detour
As part of the CCMUA’s $50 million expansion project to provide increased sewer capacity in Berlin Borough, Berlin Township, Chesilhurst, Pine Hill, Waterford Township and Winslow Township, Berlin-Cross Key Road will be closed from New Brooklyn-Erial Road to Turnersville Road. A detour will be in place for four to six weeks beginning Monday, July 30. Motorists should take New Brooklyn-Erial Road to Erial-Clementon Road to Turnersville Road back to Berlin-Cross keys Road. 

Haddonfield-Berlin Road Improvements
Camden County will begin roadway improvements this summer on Haddonfield-Berlin Road (Route 561) from Evesham Road to Laurel Oak Road. The $2.5 million project will be completed at night to lessen its impact on motorists and area businesses. The improvements approved by the Freeholder Board include the resurfacing of the roadway, drainage improvements and streetscape enhancement. The approaches to the intersections at White Horse Road and Evesham Road will also be resurfaced.

Cultural and Heritage Jazz Series
The Camden County Cultural & Heritage Commission presents its 7th annual “Jazzy July” series. This free outdoor concert series is on the grounds of the Historic Hopkins House, located at 250 S. Park Drive in Haddon Township in Cooper River Park. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and get comfortable for this free artistic offering by the Camden County Freeholders. July 25: Subito Sounds followed by Demetria and the Fellas will be performing. Library Hosts 3rd Annual Teen Video Contest
The Voorhees branch of the Camden County Library System is holding its third annual summer video contest for teens. The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 10, 2012. Entry forms for the free contest are available during regular business hours at the Youth Services desk of the Vogelson Branch Library located on Laurel Rd. across from the Voorhees Town Center or by e-mailing Christen Orbanus at [email protected] .
