 Fun-filled events will showcase the flavors and aromas of popular Philadelphia restaurants and food trucks, mesmerizing fireworks, and the sounds of Laura Izibor, Gerald Veasley and Regina Carter. 

(PHILADELPHIA) June 6, 2012 – Wawa Welcome America! will deliver a feast for the senses to visitors and Philadelphians alike, as Taste of Philadelphia -- a spectacular weekend of cuisine, fun and entertainment will transform Penn’s Landing into a food lover’s paradise From Friday, June 29 to Sunday, July 1, guests are invited to smell and taste delicious Philadelphia fare, listen to all-star entertainment from top jazz and blues artists, watch colorful fireworks light up the night sky and feel the spirit that only can be experienced by celebrating the 4th of July in America’s birthplace.


Returning to Taste of Philadelphia in 2012 are some of Philadelphia’s most notable restaurants including Darlings Diner, Gigi Restaurant & Lounge and Marabella Meatball Company. An exciting addition to this foodie’s dream weekend will be several of the city’s most popular food trucks, such as Sweet Box, Lil Dan’s Food Truck and Vernalicious Lunch Truck, lining the Chestnut Street Bridge to give guests a more unique “tasting” experience. Entertainment and admission to Penn’s Landing for Taste of Philadelphia is free -- with small plates from restaurants and food trucks offered at just a few dollars each. “Taste of Philadelphia continues to be one of Wawa Welcome America!’s signature events, and this year’s culinary and musical line-up will deliver the high-caliber experience our visitors and residents have come to expect and enjoy,” said Melanie Johnson, City Representative and Executive Director of Wawa Welcome America!.


“After exploring an impressive array of restaurants, food trucks and wonderful entertainment, everyone experiencing Taste of Philadelphia is sure to go home very satisfied.” Throughout the weekend, guests will enjoy music on two stages, interactive activities provided by Radio Disney and NBA Nation, and beautiful views of the waterfront.


On Friday, June 29, Taste of Philadelphia’s concert series will kick off with the soulful sounds of Laura Izibor on the RiverStage at Penn’s Landing. Popular Philadelphia DJs also will entertain guests on the Old City Stage located on the Chestnut Street Bridge.


During the day on Saturday, June 30, guests will be encouraged to relax along the waterfront while taking in the sounds of numerous artists. At 3 p.m. on the RiverStage, finalists participating in Wawa Welcome America’s Singer/Songwriter Competition (the festival’s non-professional talent competition) will showcase their wide range of talents before Philadelphia music industry judges, and compete for the 2012 title. As the sun goes down on Saturday evening, the music will soar. Regina Carter and special guest Gerald Veasley will delight guests with sultry jazz performances.


The entertainment is followed by a grand finale of fireworks illuminating the sky over the Delaware River, sponsored by Adventure Aquarium. Taste of Philadelphia will conclude on Sunday, July 1 with a spectacular tribute to gospel music. Participants from gospel choirs throughout the region will join together in song and perform uplifting and beautiful sets along the waterfront at the RiverStage. 

On Saturday and Sunday guests are also invited to enjoy an all-you-can-eat ice cream buffet benefiting the Joshua Kahan Fund, fighting to cure pediatric cancer. A $7 donation is required to enter the Super Scooper All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival, located in the Walnut West Parking Lot at Columbus Blvd. and Walnut Street.
