FIRST PITCH 4 PM
This was supposed to be the "in-between" season for St. Augustine Prep.
The Hermits won the first state title in the history of the program in 2011. They have a fleet of talented juniors and sophomores, which bodes well for 2013.
But after a ragged start to the 2012 season, St. Augustine has been among the best baseball teams in South Jersey for the last six weeks. The Hermits have risen to No. 3 in The Inquirer's South Jersey rankings and will face No. 1 Gloucester Catholic in the Non-Public South A final Tuesday at Rowan University.
Rams roar. Gloucester Catholic (26-4) has won nine in a row to surge back into the top spot in the rankings.
Gloucester Catholic beat then-No. 1 Bishop Eustace, 4-0, in the South A semifinals Friday behind freshman righthander John Murphy, who pitched a four-hitter.
