It didn’t take Steve Bruno very long to get his professional career off the ground.
Taken in the seventh round of last week’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, the 2009 Gloucester Catholic High School graduate said he will sign with the Chicago Cubs this morning.
“I’ll officially sign (today) but I’ve met with team management and the paperwork is done,” Bruno said from his hotel room in Mesa, Ariz., on Wednesday afternoon. “I’ve seen the contract.”
Bruno will sign a standard rookie contract and receive a signing bonus in the neighborhood of $150,000 — the slotted amount for a seventh-round pick.
