Gloucester County to Distribute Produce Vouchers to Seniors
Sunday, June 17, 2012
(Woodbury, NJ) – Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Lyman Barnes announced today that the county will offer $20 in vouchers to income eligible seniors to buy fresh produce at designated local farmers markets. Voucher distribution will begin on Monday, June 18.
“It is important that our seniors do not have to choose between buying fresh fruit and vegetables and paying for some other necessity,” said Freeholder Director Damminger. “This program is very successful and important to the health of our older residents and we appreciate our local farmers for participating,” Damminger said.
“We live in the heart of the ‘Jersey Fresh’ region and we have access to healthy food. The County will distribute 3,000 vouchers to help our seniors purchase produce from our local farms,” stated Freeholder Lyman Barnes, the liaison to the County’s Department of Health and Senior Services.
Through the federally funded program eligible seniors will receive four $5.00 vouchers this year.
Seniors must be 60 years of age or older and have an annual income less than $20,665 for one and less than $27,991 for two.
