REPAIR WORK ON THE GLOUCESTER CITY/BROOKLAWN BRIDGE (located on South Broadway) will begin on or about Monday, May 14, 2012 (weather permitting). Traffic delays can be expected. The existing bridge will be demolished. It will be replaced with new abutments, bridge span, decking and parpets along with new pedestrian sidewalks, new guide rail, traffic striping and markings. The cost of the project is $4,154,144. Estimate construction duration is 15 months; completion date August 2013. There will be a 8-ton weight limit and truck detour during the construction period.
WHERE'S THE COMMUNITY PRIDE?-Hopefully after the bridge work is finished there is some money left to replace the delapidated shabby beat-up City seal sign and the Lions Club and Rotary Club sign located near the corner of the bridge that welcome people to Gloucester City when they cross the border into the City from Brooklawn. Those signs along with the group of similar signs on Market Street at the Rt. 42- off-ramp should have been removed decades ago. These signs are nothing but a huge sign of neglect that cast a negative shadow immediately upon entering the City.
