Joseph Rafferty (photo) has been appointed Gloucester City School Superintendent by the City Board of Education this week. He will replace Paul Spaventa, whose contract was not renewed by the Board.
Presently Rafferty, a long-time resident of Gloucester City, is the Superintendent of the Mount Ephraim School District, a position he has held since 2006.
Rafferty’s work experience includes principal of the Rohrer Middle School in Haddon Township, grant writer and assistant principal of the Mary Ethel Costello School. He was a teacher at Gloucester Catholic High School and also at Gloucester City High School.
He graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School Class of '79 and is a parishioner at Saint Mary Church.
His salary and the term of his contract is not known at this time.
