MOVE TO STATE HEALTH PLAN TO SAVE TAXPAYERS AN ESTIMATED $1 MILLION THIS YEAR
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ - (March 5, 2012) – Mike Pascetta, Chairman of the Washington Township GOP, announced today that the Washington Township Council have fulfilled a campaign promise and moved township employees on to the New Jersey State health benefits plan, saving taxpayers over $1 million this year.
“Councilmen Dan Morley, Chris Del Borrello, and Giancarlo D’Orazio have pushed for this move for a year and a half now to address the taxpayers huge insurance cost,” said Mike Pascetta. “I’m very glad to see that their persistence paid off. It is a significant step towards restoring fiscal responsibility, cutting spending and controlling taxes for all Washington Township residents.”
This is the first point in a four point plan Council Vice President Del Borrello outlined during February 22nd council meeting where he addressed the estimated $1 million to $3 million dollar budget short fall during a public presentation.Additional savings may be realized by phasing out sick time buy-back, hiring a full-time inspector instead of contracting out those services and moving the municipal workweek back to 32 or 35 hours.
“It is important to understand that this move will save taxpayers about $1 million in 2012 when the switch is made on May 1 and an estimated $1.5 million in 2013,” said Del Borrello. “Additionally, I am also quite happy that the mayor and the administration have finally agreed to one of our proposals. I hope they will also support the additional three tax savings points to help ease the tax burden for residents.”
Councilman D’Orazio added, “Council and the administration should always be looking out for the taxpayers first. I am glad we can continue to work together for the benefit of all the residents to find solutions to difficult problems.”
