Union to host annual showcase
PPL Park will be the epicenter of U.S. soccer on July 25, when the 2012 AT&T MLS All-Star Game comes to Philadelphia. An overflow crowd will see the league’s best take on a yet unnamed international opponent in the annual contest.
“Philadelphia has become a destination for hosting major soccer events in recent years, and we are pleased to bring the 2012 AT&T MLS All-Star Game to a region with incredibly passionate soccer supporters,” said MLS Commissioner Don Garber.
Philadelphia Union CEO and Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz said of the event, "From where we were four years ago, when we didn't even have a stadium, to where we are now, this is amazing. I think the fans are going to be rewarded in a big way… It's going to be one heck of a party."
While the opponent for the MLS All-Stars has still not been determined for 2012, previous editions have featured Manchester United, Everton FC, Chelsea FC and CD Guadalajara.
