County Takes Part in National Consumer Protection/Weights and Measures Week
Woodbury – The Gloucester County Office of Consumer Protection with Divisions of Consumer Affairs and the Division of Weights and Measures is joining with federal, state and local government agencies and national consumer organizations in commemorating the 14th Annual National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) that runs from March 4 through 10, 2012. Concurrently the National Conference of Weights and Measures has proclaimed March 1 through 7 as Weights and Measures week. These two combined agencies are powerful tools for consumers.
As part of the dual 2012 campaign “Your Information Destination” the Office of Consumer Protection will highlight this theme in their consumer education efforts over the next two weeks from March 1 through March 10.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “It is important that we continue to educate consumers of all ages of the pitfalls and scams that are out there. Regardless of your age or financial situation, there are useful lessons to learn about spending and managing your money wisely,” Director Damminger said.
“We are urging local residents to visit or call the Consumer Protection Office for information on any subject that relates to purchasing power, including everyday items like gasoline, produce and other food commodities where scales must be certified. Our Weights and Measures inspectors are out in the field everyday conducting random inspections at service stations and other businesses that sell products to the public by weight, measure or count,” said Freeholder Lyman Barnes, Freeholder liaison to the county Office of Consumer Protection.
Information is also available on the county’s website calendar as a reminder of the Freeholder’s promotion of Identity Theft Protection with the annual “BIG” Shredding Event on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the County Complex in Clayton.
