(cnbnews.net) JEER-A study by NJ State Comptroller Matthew Boxer discovered that some municipalities are overpaying for employees health insurance. Boxer’s report found that insurance brokers working for Essex and three other local governments — the townships of Brick, East Brunswick and Haddon Township — charged $1 million in fees between 2009 and 2010. The state health plan doesn’t levy those fees and charges less because it has more people in its system, the report said.
One of the insurance companies that have benefited is Conner Strong which is run by South Jersey Political Boss George Norcross III.
JEER-Imagine if Ron Paul announced a national campaign called ‘Whites for Ron Paul’ – he’d be vilified as a racist. Yet Barack Obama has done the equivalent of precisely that with his launch of ‘African Americans for Obama’. Obama is urging black people to pressure churches into supporting his administration by getting his message out via "the faith community." He also calls on black voters to become "congregation captains". What happened to his campaign promise to unite our country be they black or white. Not only is Obama playing the race card in an attempt to pressure black Americans into voting for him, he is also violating the separation between church and state.
CHEER-Congratulations to newly hired Police Officer Benjamin McKinney and Police Officer Blaise O'Donnell who were administered the oath of office by Gloucester City Mayor James at a February council meeting.
CHEER-Mount Ephraim resident Brandon Libby competed on “Jeopardy” for three shows in January and won a total of $32,600.
It is great to see a local guy do good!
CHEER-The Assembly bill to allow same sex marriages was vetoed by Gov. Christie on Feb. 17. Christie said, “An issue of this magnitude and importance, which requires a constitutional amendment, should be left to the people of New Jersey to decide.” We agree with the Governor, the public, not politicians, should have the final say on this controversial topic. Put the measure up for a vote.
CHEER-Westville Mayor and Council passed a resolution in February honoring citizen Thomas Donnelly for his many years of volunteer community service. The governing body praised Donnelly for all his efforts through the Westville Lion’s Club, Westville Board of Health and the Westville Fire Department.
CHEER-The Chiefs of Police and community leaders of the Bellmawr Borough, Pine Hill Borough, Oaklyn Borough, Haddon Heights Borough, Magnolia Borough, Runnemede Borough, and Gloucester Township Police Departments recognize the importance of maximizing the available resources of their officers while on patrol, while saving municipal tax dollars by cutting overhead costs of operations. By collectively entering into a shared service agreement, these seven municipalities have joined forces to put cutting edge technology into operation by sharing the equipment and operating costs.
CHEER-In last month's column a Riverview Heights property that was a garbage dump received a Jeer. The people living in the rented bungalow moved leaving behind piles of trash, on the front lawn and on the side of the house. The mess included old TV’s, a broken lawnmower, gas can, broken toys, empty bottles, a large above ground pool, and assorted garbage. Happy to report that the clutter has been removed thanks to Gloucester City Housing Code Officer Joe Stecklair and employees of the Public Works Department.
