Feb 29 lecture focuses on social media in the Middle East
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (02/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Magda Bagnied, Ph.D., Elizabethtown College's Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, will present Wednesday, Feb 29, 11 a.m. in Gibble Auditorium, located in Esbenshade Hall. Her topic for the 'Wednesday at 11' event is "Egypt: the role of social media & the ongoing process of revolution in the Middle East".
Dr. Bagnied arrived from Cairo, Egypt in January and brings deep expertise in the role media has served in the continuing evolution of the Middle East. A member of the International Women Media Foundation in the United States, the Egyptian Radio & Television Union and the International Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Bagnied has studied mass cultural program for the European Service of Radio Cairo titled, "Stars on Egyptian land," communications and media, particularly related to analyzing the news. She prepares and presents a weekly radio program which has been recognized as a top radio show in English for the Arab Broadcasting Union.
Dr. Bagnied is teaching a course under the Department of Communication's curriculum titled, "Mass Media in the Middle East." Additionally, Dr. Bagnied is guest lecturer for other academic departments including Business, International Relations, Modern Languages, Music and Political Science. She is traveling to serve as guest lecturer at Penn State's Altoona Campus and will tour several television studios to meet and talk with women journalists in central Pennsylvania.
The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence program provides students with the opportunity to gain exposure to international academic professionals. Elizabethtown College hopes to expand international programming and strengthen the College's Center for Global Citizenship through the Fulbright Scholar-in-residence program.
