(Sewell, NJ) – The Gloucester County Department of Health, Senior and Disability Services offers a variety of free senior fitness programs for its residents. The programs are available for those 60 and older and include: Tai Chi, Sunrise Yoga, Move Today (strength class) and the Step by Step walking club.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “These programs offer a great opportunity for our seniors to get fit, have fun and be social.”
Fitness programs are offered throughout the county at a variety of locations. All programs are free and run for (1) one hour, taking place over a (6) six week period.
“An active lifestyle is a key component to successful aging,” stated Freeholder Liaison Lyman Barnes. Barnes stated that both aerobic and strengthening exercises can improve physical function and balance while increasing ability and confidence at performing daily activities.
Freeholder Barnes said, “We encourage our seniors to take advantage of these fun and free fitness programs.”
Currently scheduled weekly classes include:
When: Thursdays February 23rd, and
March 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th.
Time: 10:30 am -11:30 am
Where: Deptford Senior Center, 1341 Tanyard Rd., Sewell, NJ 08080
When: Tuesdays, February 21st, 28th; and
March 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
Time: 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
Where: Monroe Township Library, 713 Marsha Ave., Williamstown, NJ 08094
Classes are limited to 25 individuals. Please register in advance by calling (856) 218 – 4106 to secure your spot.
