LA SALLE'S PAYNE TABBED ATLANTIC 10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Jada Payne (Hickory, NC/Hickory) earned her second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor of the season, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Payne averaged 21.0 points and 5.5 rebounds to lead the Explorers in both contests last week. Both games saw new career highs for Payne. She netted a game-best 18 points at Charlotte on Wednesday and followed up with a 24-point performance at Richmond on Saturday. She also pulled down a career-high eight boards against the 49ers to lead the Explorers in outrebounding the league's top rebounding squad.

For the season, Payne is scoring 9.1 points per game and chipping in 4.3 rebounds. She is the only player on the team to have started every game this season.

Payne earned Rookie of the Week honors back in November as well, as she was the first announced honoree of the season.

Sophomore averaged 19.5 ppg. for Explorers in two games

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle sophomore Tyreek Duren (Philadelphia, Pa. / Neumann-Goretti) has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced today. Kraemer Earns His Second Athlete of the Week Nod

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 23, 2012) – For the third time this year, a Stevens Institute of Technology men’s indoor track & field student-athlete was named Empire 8 Conference Athlete of the Week. This week’s honoree is junior Andrew Kraemer (Budd Lake, N.J.) who has earned this honor twice in the winter after his efforts at the Ducks’ meet at Wesleyan University on January 21.

Kraemer placed first overall in the weight throw out of 22 competitors and won the event with a toss of 15.33 meters (50 feet, 3.5 inches). The runner-up in the event posted a mark of 14.95 meters (49’ ¾”), falling short of Kraemer’s throw by almost a foot-and-a-half.

This is Kraemer’s second time in the early season to be named the conference’s athlete of the week. He got the nod after his school record-breaking performance of 15.49 meters in the same event back on December 5.

In four meets for Stevens this season, Kraemer has eclipsed the 15.30-meter mark three times in the weight throw.
