Camden, NJ— On Monday, Congressman Andrews joined Camden Mayor Dana Redd to announce a $7.5 million federal grant that will create 115 teaching jobs in Camden County. These teachers will conduct early learning programs and provide child care for 865 children between ages of 3 to 5 from low-income families. (January 30, 2012)After a massive outcry from the Second Amendment community against A588 (backdoor ammo ban) and A1013 (defacing firearms - unintended consequences), the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee "held" A588 and amended A1013 in response to gun owner concerns. The effect of holding A588 is to send it back to the drawing board for further review and amendment, and this legislation that would have opened the door to a sweeping ammunition ban will not advance in its present form. In August 2009 Mayor and Council passed a resolution adopting that same report. A new survey just out from the US Chamber of Commerce showed that a whopping 74% of small business owners say that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act makes it more difficult for them to hire additional employees. January 23, 2012 The Philadelphia Archdiocese was named an “unindicted co-conspirator” today by prosecutors in a case involving clergy sexual abuse. At the pretrial hearing, Assistant District Attorney Mark Cipolletti made accusations against a defrocked priest, Edward Avery, and the archdiocese. Cipolletti said “the archdiocese was supplying him [Avery] with an endless amount of victims.” Msgr. William Lynn will also face trial in March. Avoid the Capture of Bobcats while Trapping Other Furbearers The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife is advising the state's trapping community that if a bobcat (alive or dead) is found in a set to call 877-WARNDEP (877-927-6337). The dispatcher will notify the appropriate Endangered and Nongame Species zoologist. Although bobcats are considered a game species, they are currently classified as "Endangered" in New Jersey and are managed by the division's Endangered and Nongame Species Program. Philadelphia, January 19, 2012 – The Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) has implemented two ordinances designed to encourage the use of solar panels systems in Philadelphia. Sponsored by Councilman Jim Kenney, the two ordinances amend the Philadelphia Building Construction and Occupancy Code to greatly reduce the costs of securing both electrical permits and building permits for solar panel systems (also known as photovoltaic systems).
