I've previously written about myOpen Public Records Act (OPRA) case against the Township of Voorhees and the Borough of Gibbsboro, both in Camden County. See my blog entries of October 12, 2011 and October 20, 2011. To summarize, attorney Walter M. Luers and I sued both Voorhees and Gibbsboro for records arising out of a December 30, 2009 incident in which a uniformed Voorhees police officer, while in Gibbsboro behind the wheel of his parked patrol car, was slapped repeatedly by his wife. (If you haven't listened to the 911 calls made by the alarmed citizens who witnessed this incident,...

(January 30, 2012)After a massive outcry from the Second Amendment community against A588 (backdoor ammo ban) and A1013 (defacing firearms - unintended consequences), the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee "held" A588 and amended A1013 in response to gun owner concerns. The effect of holding A588 is to send it back to the drawing board for further review and amendment, and this legislation that would have opened the door to a sweeping ammunition ban will not advance in its present form. The amendments to A1013 are still under review, but it is very apparent from the actions of the Committee...

January 26, 2012 President Barack Obama recognized nine Catholic teachers today as “Champions of Catholic Education.” Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented on this event as follows: President Obama’s recognition of Catholic education is much appreciated. Ironically, it is precisely because so many Catholic schools serve non-Catholics in the inner city that Catholic schools, as well as all other non-profit Catholic institutions, have been disqualified by the Obama administration from receiving a religious exemption from mandated healthcare services: Catholic institutions that hire and serve non-Catholics are considered insufficiently religious by the Obama administration and must therefore provide sterilization and contraceptive...

The following two court opinions are not published in the law books and are not ordinarily written about in legal periodicals. Unless somebody puts them on-line and calls attention to them, they are likely not to be located by people who may want to search for them. I think that it's important that court opinions, even if they are not precedential, are easily accessible for future use. I have converted the scanned opinions to searchable text versions. This allows for easier reading and the ability to search for words and cut and paste. Links to the scans are contained within...
