An anonymous donation was received by the Borough of Bellmawr toward its annual “Christmas In The Park” event.
The $5,000 windfall was noted by Councilman Lou Di Angelo during last week’s meeting as he announced the Borough’s planned holiday functions.
This year’s Christmas In the Park at the Recreation Center on Creek Road will feature scores of holiday decorations, along with a sleigh ride through the complex, and headlined by a visit from Santa himself.
The event dates are Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3, as well as December 9 and 10, with Sunday, December 11, as a rain date. It will run from 6 to 9 p.m. nightly.
Di Angelo said the annual Tree Lighting and Truck Parade will begin at 7 p.m. at the former Annunciation School parking lot, finishing at Borough Hall, where Santa will throw the switch on the Borough Christmas tree.
There is also a scheduled performance by the Bell Oaks Chorale.
Under committee reports, Public Safety Director John Bollinger said Bellmawr expected the delivery of a new ambulance in late November 27.
Di Angelo commented on the recently held Fall Festival, adding monies left over will now go toward beautification efforts within the Borough.
All business on the evening’s agenda was unanimously approved, with the exception of Ordinance #11:19-11, which was read and introduced for the first time, in title only, and deals with amending the Borough salary ordinance (#05:10-11) to which Councilman John Bollinger voted “no.”
Two ordinances had their second reading, public hearing and final adoption:
Ordinance #10:17-11, for acquisition of turnout gear for the Bellmawr Fire Department, in which $22,000 was appropriated for the purchase, and $20,900 was issued for financing the measure.
Also, Ordinance #10:18-11, for designating no parking for snow emergency routes, as per Chapter 116 of the Borough Code.
Various streets have been designated snow emergency routes and signs have been posted in these areas.
All residents are asked to remove their vehicles from the roadways in order to ease the Highway Department's snow removal efforts.
In other agenda-based business, resolutions were passed for the following:
Resolution #11:194-11, authorizing a letter of intent to co-purchase brine with Gloucester City; 1:195-11, bulletproof vests, $955.95; 11:196-11, Open Space Preservation Trust Fund, $25,000; 11:198-11, Body Armor Replacement Fund, $2,204.15; 11:199-11, Recycling tonnage grant, $13,241.13; 11:200-11, Do-nations for the purchase of security cameras, $2,986; 11:201-11, Clean Community grant, $22,623.65; 11:202-11 Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund, $3,000.
Resolution #11:203-11 was added to the agenda supporting a solar energy measure to be installed within the Creek Road landfill redevelopment area.
The next Borough Council meeting will be Monday, December 19. For information contact Borough Hall at (856) 933-1313, or at: www.bellmawr.com.
