CREW'S SCOUNDREL OF THE YEAR

December 23, 2011

Washington, D.C. –   The race to be named CREW’s first ever Scoundrel of the Year came down to a dead heat between a Wall Street puppet and a media puppet master.   While House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) hypocrisy riled up voters, in the end, he was no match for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., which may have spied on the families of 9/11 victims as well as other American citizens. The Department of Justice is now investigating the matter.

“The deplorable behavior of Mr. Murdoch and his employees stood head and shoulders above the other worthy nominees for the title of Scoundrel of the Year,” said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan.  “With the Department of Justice investigating, 2012 could bring new headaches for Mr. Murdoch and new revelations of further wrongdoing.  ”

Who will be the first scoundrel of 2012?  Nominations are already being accepted for January’s ballot and are not limited to people; entities and agencies are also eligible.  CLICK HERE TO NOMINATE A SCOUNDREL.  Nominations are due by Friday, January 20th.  Voting will begin the following week.
