Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments as follows: In San Francisco, the most controversial public issue at the moment is whether men—make that homosexual men—who parade around the city naked should be required to put a towel under their bottoms when they sit down on public benches or in restaurants (yes, these boys are legally allowed to swallow clams at Fisherman's Wharf in the nude, sitting next to families). The big issue in Pittsburgh is whether the public should be exercised about the Internet claims of an ex-con (he has several priors) who says the local bishop tried to kiss him in the 1980s. In a sane society, men would be locked up for exposing their genitals to children in public. Moreover, men who have been convicted of indecent exposure and lewd behavior, and who wait 30 years to make charges that they were inappropriately kissed—never once going to the...

CNBNEWS TIPS AND SNIPPETS related: CNBNEWS POINT OF VIEW BY BILL CLEARY GOBBLE! GOBBLE! A rafter of turkeys have taken over Sherwood Avenue in the Highland Park section of Gloucester City. According to Joan Williams, a resident of that street, the turkeys are attacking people and damaging vehicles with their pecking. “The eight baby turkeys that were born in the spring are now as big as the adults. Some of my neighbors are afraid to go outside for fear of being injured by the birds.” She was going to ask mayor and city council for some help with the problem. Over the last several years turkeys have been spotted in Gloucester Heights, blocking traffic on Nicholson Road, on Maple Avenue (Cypress Gardens) sitting on roof tops, in the woods behind Gloucester High School and on Lake Drive and Sixth Street in Brooklawn. photo by Chip Atkins: Turkeys perched on a...

Volume XVI No. 40: October 7, 2011 When asked why he robbed banks, Willie Sutton supposedly observed, "because that's where the money is." This yielded the "Willie Sutton Rule" of business: concentrate efforts on cost-cutting and efficiency where you have the greatest costs. The same maxim applies to cutting the deficit. As much as we rail against waste, fraud, and abuse and try to excise it from government, it doesn't amount to $1.2 trillion -- the target for the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. Not even close. This type of spending should not be exempt by any stretch, and wasteful spending provisions make up a good part of our Super Cuts for the Super Committee list. But it does mean we can't kid ourselves into thinking we can just eliminate waste and bureaucratic excess and we'll have the books balanced. We also have to deal with cold hard numbers....

Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments on a case that involves the "ministerial exception," a provision that bars the government from making employment decisions regarding a church's ministers. The position articulated by Leondra R. Kruger, who represented the Obama administration, was the subject of a revealing series of exchanges with the Justices. After Kruger dodged a pointed question by Chief Justice John Roberts on the specific religious nature of the case—all she would allow was that associational rights were involved—Justice Antonin Scalia pressed her even further: "That's extraordinary. That's extraordinary. We are talking here about the Free Exercise Clause and about the Establishment Clause, and you say they have no special application?" Later, Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan asked Kruger about this same issue. When Kruger indicated that the "ministerial exception" was not grounded in the First Amendment, Kagan, citing Scalia's concern, said "I too find that amazing, that...

The Gloucester County 4-H Equestrian shined at the 2011 New Jersey State 4-H Championship Horse Show held September 9-11 at the Horse Park of NJ – after a two week delay due to Hurricane Irene. Fitting a full three-day show into two days and one evening was a bit of a struggle for the show committee, and not the most convenient time for the competitors, whom in most cases had just returned to school, but the team (and parents) showed great resilience, and 32 of the original 34 competitors were able to re-arrange their schedules to attend. The team members had many individual accomplishments in the Games, Dressage, English, and Western divisions. Their combined efforts earned them the title of Overall Reserve Champions in the Western Division. By Congressman ROB ANDREWS | For the Courier-Post Haddon Heights, NJ - When America declared war in Afghanistan, we delivered an ultimatum to Taliban leaders to either hand over those responsible for the attacks on 9/11 or we will forcefully remove them. We were correct and justified in that decision; no one can harbor terrorists without facing the consequences of war. Our mission was to deprive al-Qaida of a safe haven from which they could launch another attack, and thanks to the men and women of America’s armed forces we have largely accomplished that goal. Now, it is time to bring our troops home so they can return to their families and be honored for their success. America is ready for a sharp troop drawdown because military operations in Afghanistan are effectively completed. We set out to stop the terrorists with two tasks in mind: eliminate al-Qaida and deny the...

Sis enjoyed hosting amazing Christmas Eve parties, made Halloween costumes for everyone and enjoyed dressing in them as well. She loved children, the Dollar store and had tubs of toys for her nieces, nephews and grandson to tear through when they visited. All who knew her will remember the sparkle in her smiling Irish eyes. Her kindness, laughter and generosity will be missed. Sis was active in Annunciation Church hosting Youth Groups. She worked for many years at Metrologic in Gloucester Twp. Wife of Arthur B. Feltman. Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on reports that the NFL may invite Madonna to perform during Super Bowl XLVI: The NFL would do well to drop any plans it may have about inviting Madonna to perform during the Super Bowl. Here's why. In 2004, the NFL invited 'N Sync's JC Chasez to sing during the halftime of the Pro Bowl game. When Chasez said he was going to sing his latest single, "Some Girls (Dance with Women)," the NFL objected, citing the sexual Cover of Madonna lyrics that may offend viewers (at the time, the NFL was still receiving flak over the Justin Timberlake-Janet Jackson Super Bowl controversy). The NFL then asked Chasez to sing "Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love)" instead. Chasez agreed to do so. Then the NFL decided that the singer had to drop the lyrics "horny" and "naughty" from the song. Again, Chasez acceded to...

As a New Jersey resident and taxpayer, I am tired of Gov. Chris Christie’s disrespectful comments directed toward the Senate and Legislature. This state is facing high property taxes and other financial difficulties, job loss and high unemployment, displaced families due to Hurricane Irene, and a declining housing market. During times of hardship, such as these, people look for leadership to provide comfort and relief. Yet, Gov. Christie seems to focus too much of his attention on bashing the Senate and Legislature with his constant immature, snide remarks. Any mature, well-rounded adult fully understands the importance of team work even if others don’t share your point of view. It is in working together that much get accomplished. Gov. Christie’s bullying tactics are counter-productive and his on-going negative rhetoric aimed at the Senate and Legislature proves that he is a defiant, uncooperative blabbermouth that could better serve the people of New...

Several parents wondered what the School District considered acceptable physical education and health requirements. Dave Magpiong cited state Department of Education protocol, namely State Law NJSA 18A:35-7 and 8, which state: “Students in Grades 1-12 receive 150 minutes (2 ½ hours) of health, safety and physical education per week, prorated for school holidays. Local school districts decide how many minutes per week are necessary in each area, in order to achieve the core standards.” Schools may also utilize recess periods to achieve the required blocks of time, which led to certain parents being told by their children that the mandated curriculum was not being followed by staff. Magpiong also asked if the use of recess for certain phys ed requirements...

Our campaign rejects all contributions from Washington lobbyists, and we refuse all money from corporate PACs. That means we're accountable only to the people, not special interests.
