Mount Ephraim Mayor Joseph Wolk expressed his deepest appreciation to resident Ella Stevenson -- who donated a 9/11 flag to the borough -- during last week’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

The flag is currently on display at Borough Hall, and it lists the names of those who perished in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Wolk said that this flag helps to honor and remember the victims.

In other business the Commissioners thanked members of Boy Scout Troop 88, which consists of boys from Mt. Ephraim, Audubon and Audubon Park, who picked up trash and recyclables along the railroad tracks October 1.

The Commissioners said the area looks much better than before.

They also announced that Brooklawn Mayor Theresa Branella had sent a letter of appreciation to both Mount Ephraim Police Chief Edward Dobleman and Sergeant William Errigo, thanking them and their officers for assisting on September 11 during the dedication ceremony of Brooklawn’s 9/11 Memorial and Monument of the Delaware Valley.

The Police Department reported that there were 455 calls and 28 arrests in September. Some of the arrests included six for possession of CDS, 3 DWI, one robbery and one simple assault.

Commissioner Andrew Gilmore said the Fire Department received 23 calls in September, which included six calls for mutual aid, three alarms and eight motor vehicle accidents. Year to date the volunteers have racked up more than 23,000 man hours.

Also in September, the Public Works Department kept very busy preparing for the cooler weather.

Workers have purchased 25 tons of salt, repaired the snow removal vehicles, hung the fall banners on Kings Highway, and continue to cut the grass of vacant homes.

Commissioner Bruce Greenwald announced that the borough’s new trash truck has arrived. Once it has been painted and outfitted with the appropriate decals, residents should expect to see it on the streets.

Trick or Treating hours are 3-8 p.m. on Monday, October 31. The curfew for minors from October 28 to 31 will be 9 p.m.

The next Commissioners meeting will be on Thursday, November 3, at 8 p.m. in Borough Hall.
