“In memory of our fallen brothers,” Tom Stewart III, Jim Sylvester and John West Sr., the Heroes to Hero 10th annual 5K run/walk will be held on Saturday, October 15, rain or shine, at 9 a.m.

“Please join us in celebrating the lives and careers of firefighter Tommy Stewart of the Gloucester City Fire Department, Chief Jim Sylvester of the Mount Ephraim Fire Department and Deputy Fire Marshal John West of the Camden County Fire Marshal’s Office, who passed away while serving the fire departments and communities that they loved so much,” race officials said.

“Retracing our fallen brothers’ footsteps, the 3.1 mile course is ‘point to point, starting at Grant Avenue and Bell Road in Mt. Ephraim and ending at the Gloucester City Fire Department. The course will pass by each one of the firefighters’ homes,” they said.

Preregistration will be Friday, October 14, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and race day registration will be from 7 to 8 a.m, all at the Gloucester City Fire House, 1 N. King Street.

Registration is available online at heroestohero.com or pick up a hard copy at Fire Headquarters. Call 856-364-0441 for information.

“This year, as in years past, we will provide our community with one of the biggest, most complete 5k events in the tri-state area. We average 1,000 participants every year. We will continue our celebration with a block party after the awards ceremony followed by an afternoon at Oh! Hara’s Pub on King St., our close friend and 10 year sponsor, for an afternoon of fun, frolic and friendship like it used to be,” race organizers said.

“Special music and guest bartenders will create a festive atmosphere for all. A portion of the proceeds and the tips collected by our guest bartenders will be donated to the Heroes to Hero Foundation!” they said.

“As the times are difficult and ‘lean’ to say the least, it is growing more difficult to provide a quality event year after year. Thankfully, we have secured finances and logistics for 2011,” race organizers said.

“If you haven’t experienced the ‘electricity’ that fills the air, both on the course and afterglow at the Heroes to Hero Run, I urge you to join us October 15 and participate in a 5k run second to none!” Jerry Hubbs said.
