Vehicle Overturns After Driver Falls Asleep At The Wheel on Cross Keys Road

  On 9/27/11 at approximately 5:45 am ,Gloucester Township Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving an overturned vehicle on Cross Keys Road in the vicinity of Johnson Road.

 Preliminary investigation determined the vehicle was traveling westbound on Cross Keys Road when the driver, Branden Crossen, fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the curb in the area of the Cross Keys Center near Johnson Road and rolled several times before coming to a rest in the retention pond.

Mr. Crossen sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene. He was issued motor vehicle summons.

 

In March 2011, Gloucester Township Police partnered with adjacent jurisdictions to form the Cross Keys Road Joint Safe Passage Initiative. This ongoing campaign focuses on targeted enforcement of cell phone use while driving, aggressive driving such as unsafe lane changes, speeding, seatbelt usage, and other moving violations. In 2009 and 2010 combined, a total of 792 motor vehicle crashes had occurred on Cross Keys Road between the White Horse Pike and the Black Horse Pike.

 

Drivers are reminded to avoid distracted driving practices and to ensure they get adequate rest before embarking on long journeys.
