Pet Tip of the Week: Rainy Day Activities-(

Birthday_dalmatian by Dawn

Since we’ve had more than our fair share of rain lately, I thought a few suggestions on family fun with Fido, indoor edition, would be a good idea!

First of all, get your rain coat on and take a long walk with your dog! A tired dog is a happy dog and both you and he will benefit by the exercise. After you’re both dried off and you’ve had your cup of chicken soup, it’s time to set up the obstacle course!

Get a big box and fold in both sides to make a tunnel, get two blocks or coffee cans and top them off with a broom handle to make a jump, and get out your hula hoop to make things really interesting! After Fido has run through the tunnel, jumped over the jump, and gone through the hoop about 10 times, he’ll be ready for a rest.

Another game you can play when you’re stuck in the house is Find It, a tracking and scent game that will hone your dog’s instincts while providing you and the kids with entertainment. All you have to do is let Fido see and sniff a treat, then distract him while you hide it. Direct him to the viciBannernity of the treat and celebrate when he finds it!

All of these simple suggestions will go a long way toward increasing the bond between you and your dog. In addition, you’ll be having fun during these oh-so-frequent wet weather weekends!

Next week’s topic will be your choice so send me an email with a topic you’d like to discuss! . As always Cleary’s notebook encourages dialogue so your comments are welcome!

Wado, udohiyu, (thank you very much, in the Cherokee language)
