NEW THIRD WARD REPRESENTATIVE-Gloucester City residents living in the Third Ward have a new representative on City Council. Sources tell me that Helen “Lynn”  Bucher, of Thompson Avenue, will be sworn in at tonight’s council meeting. She is replacing Council woman Kellie Ferry who has resigned do to other commitments. The three year term for the Third Ward seat expires in November 2013. Bucher was one of three candidates to be interviewed for the position by the City’s Democrat Committee people. She will have to run for election in November 2012.   Mayor William James said he will release a statement about the change on Friday.  

 

THE VIKINGS ARE COMING-The majestic, training ship DANMARK, considered Denmark’s nautical ambassador will visit Philadelphia September 23-27, and dock at Penn’s Landing for public tours. Arriving Friday September 23 at 11 a.m., the DANMARK will be escorted up the river to Penn’s Landing, by the Leif Ericsson Viking Ship with full sails and the Philadelphia Fire Department Boat, The Independence will also join the parade of Sail and spray water during their arrival. 

For those who want to get a closer look at the Leif Ericsson Viking Ship it will be launched from the Gloucester City Marina, King Street and Jersey Avenue, early Friday morning around 8 a.m. It is expected to arrive at the marina at about 7 a.m.

LOVE THOSE CHICKEN WINGS Bill “El Wingador”  Simmons will be opening a chicken wing/spare rib restaurant on the Rowan University campus sometime in January.  Simmons said, “ I signed a lease to open El Wingador's Campus Grill at Rowan University. We hope to open in a couple months. I will be looking for employees...cooks,waitress. We still have to get the place together and I will let everyone know when we are taking applications.  We will be serving the best chicken and ribs you ever tasted. Plus we will have turkey wings along with delicious coleslaw and other sides. Get ready Glassboro we are coming.”
