Bellmawr Fire Dept.:Over-Ride/Under-Ride on Route 42 - cnbnews.net

On Friday July 8th, the Bellmawr Fire Department along with the Deptford Fire Department was dispatched to Route 42 Southbound in the area of Creek Rd for a MVA - Rescue Assignment. Rescue Company 32 was advised enroute that NJSP was confirming entrapment with a 2 tractor-trailers on top of a passenger vehicle.

Based on these reports a special request was made for the heavy rotator wrecker from Helmrichs Towing. Rescue 32 arrived to confirm 1 passenger vehicle with 2 tractor-trailers on top w/ 1 trapped driver on the passenger vehicle. Engine 33 and Battalion 303 (Christinzio) arrived and began to assist Rescue 32 with the operational plan. Due to the extensive stabilization and possiblity of a heavy lift operation, Camden City Rescue Company 1 was special called. Deptford Engine 93, Rescue 93, and FM 9 arrived and integrated into the operation. Crews completed stabilization of the 2 tractor-trailers with approx. 11 para-tech struts and numerous 6x6 cribbing. Once stabilized, the vehicles were married together with ratchet straps and slings. After everthing was safely stabilized, crews began tunneling from the passenger roof down towards the patient to gain access.

Access was made to the patient and the removal required several difficult hydraulic tool manuevers to remove the patient. The patient was successfully extricated and turned over to EMS at the 50 minute progress report. A lifting operation was then performed by the recovery companies for the vehicle removal. Crews from all agencies and departments were extremely well together to complete this intense extrication.
