KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Mon., July 11 the NABC Honors Court, and Goldey-Beacom College's Phillip Brooks and Ido Yehuda were both selected for their academic excellence during the 2010-11 season.
The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that student-athlete basketball players possess off the court as well as the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
        1.     Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
        2.     Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of  the 2010-11 academic year.
        3.     Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
        4.     Member of an NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA institution.
Brooks, a junior transfer out of Mitchellville, Md. (Tiftin University), studies Business Administration with a concentration in International Business. Through the 2010-11 Spring semester, he had a cumulative 3.91 G.P.A., was named to the President's List three times and Dean's List once. He was also named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Winter All-Academic Team this season.

Yehuda (above) was a key reserve down the stretch. He recorded 26 points, 29 rebounds, 12 assists, nine steals and one block in 2010-11.
Also the treasurer of GBC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Brooks appeared in 18 games and averaged 6.5 minutes per-contest last season. He recorded 21 points, 25 rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Yehuda, a senior from Hod Hasharon, Israel, completed his Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information Systems and graduated Magna cum laude. He finished his undergraduate work with a 3.94 G.P.A., and will return this Fall to get his Masters of Business Administration in Financial Management.
The Israel native also garnered CACC Winter All-Academic accolades all three years he has been eligible, including this past year. He was one of just seven athletes on this year's CACC All-Academic team to have earned the honor three times. He also has been named to the President's List a total of seven times and earned Dean's List once.
A key reserve down the stretch for the Lightning, Yehuda appeared in 26 games and averaged 6.6 minutes per-contest last season. He recorded 26 points, 29 rebounds, 12 assists, nine steals and one block.

Head coach Chuck Hammond, who has guided the Lightning to two straight CACC Finals appearances, said that Brooks and Yehuda both pay testament to the term “student-athlete.”
“While both of these guys work extremely hard on the court, they really set the standard for our team and the program off of it,” Hammond said. “They are both consistently among the top student-athletes in our department, and I couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments.”
