We are just now getting news that the Apostolic Signatura has decreed that St. Mary's in Jamesville, NY, which was closed in 2006 by the Diocese of Syracuse, can not be relegated to profane use, but rather must be maintained as a worship site.
This is very significant, as it is the first recent victory for a closed church at the level of the Signatura and it confirms that Rome is not rubber stamping Catholic church closures in the United States. (Several similar rulings have been issued earlier this year by the Congregation for the Clergy.)
