Tuesday, June 28

(CNBNEWS.NET) Monday evening around 10 pm there was an incident near BreakingNewsLogo285 Route 676 and Market Street, Gloucester City that involved several police departments.

A faithful reader of CNB sent the following Tip via email Monday at 10:30 pm.

“Hey Bill!  Something big is going on, any word what it is?  I was driving down Market, toward Mt Ephraim, the police have it closed off right at the entrance at Route 42 on Market Street. , I tried to go north on Rt. 130 towards Klemm Avenue at the rail road tracks.... and they had the street blocked off as well. Now I HEARD (and you know how Gloucester is) that there was a high speed chase on Rt 42 from Woodbury to the Market Street exit ramp in Gloucester City. The car flipped over the guardrail coming up the ramp and the guy got out and shot someone?  Now they are checking yards in the area... the last rumor that went around was that people were shooting up the town.”

According to the Gloucester County Times and several other news outlets the incident began in Woodbury Heights around 9 pm Monday on Park Avenue.

John Stavoli, 52,  of the 600 unit block, was alerted by his son that a man was sitting in a car watching their property. Stavoli went outside and exchanged words with the man in the car.

The unidentified man allegedly shot Stavoli once or twice. Authorities said Stavoli had a gunshot wound to the thigh and a finger. He was transported to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, where he was treated and released. The victim told authorities he did not know the suspect.

A Woodbury Heights police officer spotted the gunman standing by his car and ordered him to stop, but the man jumped behind the wheel and sped off, leading police on a chase around the borough. Eventually the man driving a car that was stolen earlier in Pennsylvania, headed north on Evergreen Avenue out of town. The chase continued onto Interstate 676, where the gunman crashed on a guard rail at Exit 1C in Gloucester City. The suspect fled on foot.

A search was continued until about 11:30 p.m.

The gunman is described as a white male in his 30s, 6-feet-tall, 180 pounds, wearing black shorts and a white tank top.
