Gloucester City Councilman Jay Brophy presented a Proclamation of Appreciation to David Munn during last week’s meeting for his many contributions to the city.

Munn is the local historian and was complimented for his dedication to the history of Gloucester City.

Councilman Daniel Spencer also thanked the historian at the meeting.

“As a member of the Planning Board, Munn always did a good job of protecting the City’s history,” Spencer said.

The first resolution approved by Mayor William James and City Council was to appoint Jack Lipsett to serve as interim clerk.

Kathy Jentsch is the Borough Clerk, but due to the recent illness of her husband she was not present. Councilwoman Kellie Ferry was also absent.

A resolution to authorize a change order for a contract between Krisanna Construction, Inc., and Gloucester City was approved for a $21,347.88 reduction for the reconstruction of Atlantic Street.

Work will include the reconstruction of Atlantic Street, from Monmouth to Cumberland streets. The final adjusted amount in the order is $102,038.82.

City Council approved a bond ordinance on first reading, and the public hearing will be during the regular June 23 meeting.

Copies of this ordinance and other ones designated for a public hearing are available at no cost for review during regular business hours.

The ordinance includes various improvements to the sewer and water utility systems at the Chestnut Street Pumping Station and to the Broadway water tank.

An estimated total cost for the work will be $905,000, and the bond anticipation amount is $859,750.

Mayor James also proclaimed Amateur Radio Operators Week as June 19-26.

“The operators act as weather spotters and gave their assistance during the 2005 Hurricane, when telephones were not working, and helped to connect family members,” James said.
