Gloucester Catholic Graduation Ceremonies Held; 161 Receive Diplomas

Images-19 Gloucester Catholic High School  conferred  diplomas on 161 graduates at commencement ceremonies on Thursday, May 26.

  Joseph Delengowski of Gloucester City is the valedictorian and Cassandra Ehinger of Sicklerville is the salutatorian for the GCHS Class of 2011.

  Graduation festivities for students and their families begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday with the Senior Awards Brunch at Auletto’s in Deptford.

  Msgr. James Curran, pastor of Saint Mary’s Parish in Gloucester, will be the main celebrant of the Baccalaureate Mass at the Church of Saint Agnes in Blackwood at 3:30 p.m.


 

Father Charles Brunick C.S.P., a member of the GCHS Golden Jubilarian Class of 1961, will concelebrate, along with pastors of the sending parishes. Rev. Brunick has been invited to preach the homily.

  Commencement ceremonies will follow the Mass with Superintendent of Schools for the Camden Diocese, Ms. Mary Boyle, presenting diplomas.

  Gloucester Catholic Principal John Colman will address the students and guests.

  Valedictorian Joseph Delengowski is president of the Marian Chapter of the National Honor Society.

  He has been named an NJSIAA Scholar Athlete, a Tri-County Conference Scholar Athlete Nominee, 6ABC Best of the Class 2011, Camden County Best of the Class 2011, Gloucester County Academic All Stars, as well as the GCHS 2010 American Legion Jersey Boys State Representative.

  During the last four years, he has served as an altar server, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Vacation Bible School, and has coached a youth soccer team. Joe has also been a varsity soccer and basketball player and is captain of the Ram Golf Team.

  He has been offered scholarships to Marquette and Drexel universities. He will attend Villanova University, on scholarship, where he expects to major in chemical engineering.

  Joe is the son of Anne and the late Thomas Delengowski of Gloucester City.

  Salutatorian Cassandra Ehinger, a member of the Marian Chapter of the National Honor Society, has volunteered for three years with the Cathedral Soup Kitchen in Camden and with Spanner, a group that works with mentally and physically disabled teens.

  She has been awarded scholarships to Arcadia, DeSales, Immaculata and Quinnipiac universities, Ursinus College and the University of Scranton.

  She will attend Arcadia University as a Distinguished Scholar and will major in biology.

  Cassandra is the daughter of Stephen and Carmelina Ehinger of Sicklerville.
