FATAL FIRE IN BELLMAWR NJ

BELLMAWR NJ- Tuesday, May 24, 2011 Task Force 33 was dispatched at 23:36
hours to the Bellmawr Manor Apartments Unit 181 for a reported apartment fire with entrapment.
B-303,Squirt 32 and BLS 3 arrived 3 1/2 minutes after being dispatched. Crews encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions. The fire had auto extended from the first floor unit and communicated up the outside gaining access to the cock loft through the sofit. Crews made an aggressive knock on the fire and quickly discovered the occupant had succumb to his injuries.
The crews were able to get ahead of the fire by pulling the ceilings in the unit above.
Mutual Aid from Gloucester City , Westville , Collingswood, Runnemede, Barrington, Brooklawn and Chews Landing assisted at the fire. This was the second working fire in the complex within the last 30 days. The original unit did not have a working smoke detector. The Bellmawr Fire Department urges all residents to test their detector monthly.
