Lions selected to All-Region teams


Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey baseball team had three members honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region.

 

Junior Mike Galeotafiore (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) was named to the Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team as a catcher, while sophomore Scott Kelly (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-North) was selected to the Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team at the second base position. Senior Connor Henderson (Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) was named to the 2011 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove First Team.

 

Galeotafiore batted .354 with a team-high 37 runs batted in, 14 doubles, and three home runs. He chalked up 52 hits, scored 30 times, and drew 24 walks. Galeotafiore had a season-high five hits in a win over New Jersey City University and also knocked in four runs in a victory of Elizabethtown College. He also cut down 11 runners out of 36 stolen base attempts during the season.

 

Kelly enjoyed a productive sophomore season hitting .362 with a team-high 54 hits and 42 runs scored. He ripped eight doubles, walked 24 times, and stole 17 bags. Kelly was solid on defense committing just six errors in 169 chances and was a part of 19 double play turns. He also registered his 100th career hit and has 105 in just two seasons.

 

Henderson had another standout season compiling six wins on the mound. He did not commit an error in 10 starts. Henderson also threwn just two wild pitches in 69 innings pitched, while seven runners were successful stealing bases on him during the entire season.

 

Kelly was a Second Team All-NJAC selection while Galeotafiore was named to the conference Third Team. The NJAC selections are based on conference performance only. The regional citations take into account complete season statistics and are selected from a pool of the 61 institutions that compete in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
