Four Thoughts on Memorial Day
Monday, May 30, 2011
1st THOUGHT: "The Tip of the Spear."
In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility, all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Military Air Defense Radar a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace.
The following conversation was heard on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz.
Iranian Air Defense Radar: "Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.
"Aircraft: "This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.
"Air Defense Radar: "You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!
"Aircraft: "This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up. I'll wait.
"Air Defense Radar: (total silence)
2nd THOUGHT: "The Remainder of the Spear"
We as a people (here in the USA) raised, trained, and placed that courageous warrior in harms way with the finest values, personality, training, and equipment we
3rd THOUGHT: "Veterans' Gratitude"
Any and all veterans who stand or stood in harms way realize your present and past efforts support(ed) them in the field. They applaud you.
4th THOUGHT: "A Direct Request - Participate in Your Government"
Ask (and demand) your elected officials for the same efforts in protecting your domestic freedoms here in New Jersey. Ask (and demand) they execute their duties to the highest American Standards engrained in that American Fighter Pilot. Patriotism (and the attendant duties therein) is not limited to combat. Have the courage to say NO to party bosses.
Have a great Memorial Day - everyday.
