Lt. Robert Pietrzak, of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office major crimes unit, and Det. Barry Johnson, of the GCPO fugitive unit, were promoted to higher ranks within the office today. As a new sergeant, Johnson becomes the officer in charge of the fugitive unit with the recent retirement of Sgt. Timothy O’Brien. Pietrzak was promoted to captain.
In a time of cutbacks for all areas of employment, including law enforcement, Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said, “thankfully in Gloucester County we’ve been very fortunate. We’ve been fortunate to have a stable budget over the last several years that’s been able to maintain the job force we have in this office. It’s really a testament to the fact that the freeholders have supported law enforcement in this office over the last several years. As a result of that support, we’ve had the opportunity to promote these two fine individuals.”

For seven years, former Gloucester County sheriff’s officer Johnson has done whatever the fugitive unit requested of him “without complaint or fanfare, though fanfare has come his way,” Dalton said, referring to the new sergeant’s work with the U.S.Marshal’s Task Force, featured in a 2010 TV show called “Manhunters.”

Dalton said former Deptford police officer Pietrzak has been an “outstanding detective” in the GCPO since 1998 and is well-prepared to take on more administrative duties, having served as a sergeant in the office since 2006, moving up to lieutenant in December 2007.
