SARASOTA FLORIDA:Bald eagle struck by car during rush hour on Fruitville Road

by Anthony Cormier December 13, 2010 A driver hit the eagle Monday about 4:30 p.m., causing a brief delay for drivers as police and onlookers protected the bird until an animal control officer arrived. “It came up low, right into the car,” said Julie Walburn, who watched the crash and waited impatiently for someone to come help the downed bird. The driver, Walburn said, stopped and briefly waited. But with two children in her car, she eventually left. Gloucester City Firemen "A Hot Topic"

By Bill Cleary The final day of employment for the eight Gloucester City firemen is December 22. In the meantime the topic continues to be discussed on the Internet both on ClearysNoteBook and Facebook. Following the recent Atlantic Street fire several people posted comments on Facebook that gave the impression that some local firemen and their supporters were upset because volunteers from other communities responded to the December 15 two- alarm fire in Gloucester City. *For example, GCFF wrote: Brotherhood?!?!? Not in Camden County! Thanks for your support. GCFF : Thinkin the same thing. GCFF: My heart goes out to... Read more →

Christmas without Christ

by Erin Brown, Culture and Media Institute Santa, carols, sleigh rides and presents – they’re all images the media bombard Americans with each “Christmas.” While none of those things are intrinsically bad, the lack of focus upon the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, is a sad commentary on pop culture. In 1870,Congress officially declared December 25 a federal holiday, to give those who celebrate Christmas a day to reflect upon God’s gift to mankind in sending his son, Jesus Christ. However it seems that every year, the news about Christmas covers increasingly secular topics: Christmas weather,... Read more →

The House is expecting to begin debate today on a stand-alone repeal of the military’s ban on gay servicemembers revealing their orientation. Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) and Rep. WITH WINTER TAKING HOLD, DEP URGES PROPER USE OF WOODSTOVES AND FIREPLACES

TRENTON - With colder weather taking hold and the official start of winter less than a week away, the Department of Environmental Protection is urging New Jersey's residents to be thoughtful of their neighbors when burning wood for heat. "There's nothing quite like cozying up in front of a fireplace or wood stove when the weather is really cold, but wood smoke contains pollutants - and some of your neighbors may not be able to tolerate it," said DEP Assistant Commissioner Nancy Wittenberg. "If you are going to use a fireplace, wood stove or even a wood boiler, there are... Read more →

Christmas version of 1st Corinthians

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love, I'm just another decorator. If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love, I'm just another cook. If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love, it profits me nothing. Letters: Regarding Reorganization Meetings of Municipalities

Every January, most municipalities hold their "reorganization meetings." Today, I looked at the minutes of several municipal governing bodies to learn whether or not they set aside a portion of their 2010 reorganization meetings for citizen comments. Interestingly, I found that a significant minority (approximately 20%) of the small sample of bodies I checked did NOT have a public portion set aside even though one is required by law. I urge readers to see if their municipal governing bodies set aside a portion of their 2010 Reorganization Meeting for citizen comment. Most municipalities have Internet sites and list them athttp://www.nj.gov/nj/govinfo/county/localgov.html... Read more →
