Better Communications are Needed between Gloucester City Government and the People

Bill's Point of View By Bill Cleary It’s time to change the way the City government has communicated with you. Towards the end of the film clip one of the men decides to shoot a blast of shotgun pellets to break the horn of the deer. Does his idea work? Do the bucks live to fight another day? This is a rare sight, seeing bucks battle this way. Normally this happens at night when deer are most active. Many a hunter would love to witness something like this just once in a life time. Bureaucrats Secretly Implement ObamaCare

by Tony Lee 12/27/2010 Sarah Palin warned of them. And this weekend, The New York Times reported that the infamous “death panels,” which had been stripped from ObamaCare due to the public’s outrage, were revived stealthily by unelected bureaucrats through the regulatory rulemaking process. John Haywarddiscussed the potential ramifications, and Jason Mattera noted that the brains behind the Obama Administration’s rulemaking process should be called “The Grim Reaper and Dr. Death.” In light of recent electoral and legal defeats of ObamaCare though, the ongoing attempt to create the bureaucratic framework is even more brazen. During the midterm elections, Democrats ran from ObamaCare because it was so toxic, and nearly 60% of those who showed up to the polls in what was a historic election for Republicans said they wanted ObamaCare repealed. Earlier this month, a federal judge in Virginia ruled that the individual mandate requirement of ObamaCare was unconstitutional. In... Read more →

Brian Aitken Free Thanks to Your Help

Dear Edward, You've lit the fire. As Senator Everett Dirkson once said "when I feel the heat, I see the light." And you just lit the fire that forced a spotlight of attention on Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey. Last Thursday the National Association for Gun Rights' New Jersey Ground Team delivered over 25,000 petitions to Governor Christie's office, demanding the release and full pardon of Brian Aitken. If you remember, Mr. Aitken was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison in New Jersey for never actually committing a crime. After moving from Colorado, Aitken had followed all of the absurd laws of New Jersey to a tee, only to be imprisoned for those same laws after a judge -- intent on not making the case a "referendum on the Second Amendment" -- threw out most of the evidence proving Aitken's innocence. Despite strong reservations, the jury was... Read more →

Gloucester City Highway Dept., Outstanding Job!

Dear Gloucester City Government, To whom this may concern... I am writing you today to advise you of the outstanding job the person who did the snow removal for Meadowbrook Run development did. I woke up this morning to over twelve inches of snow to find the snow removed all the way to the curb line with him using the front loader to pile it nicely instead of only one small path in the middle of the street like last year that kept me digging out my curb line for hours. This sort of work ethic not only needs to be recognized it should be awarded. Public works employees are the unsung cog of the wheel that keeps our communities running, because without them the majority of our communities would slip easily into disarray. I hope upper management receives this email and lets my snow removal crew know how important... Read more →

Letters: Thank You Mickie Glassman We Appreciate Your Hard Work

Dear Mr. Cleary, 12/24/10 I would like to thank Mickie Glassman for all of her hard work to make The Gloucester City's Polar Express Christmas a beautiful and fun night for my entire family. I know she worked so hard decorating the former Comcast building for Santa with trains, wrapped presents under the tree, and even had her son make the fireplace in which the stockings were hung. She also was the one who set up the trolley ride and had her other son set up the Polar Express movie on the building for the children to watch. Cookies were sitting by Santa for children to snack on while they waited for Santa to be in their picture. CHUCKLES: IRISH TRADITION

submitted by George Cleary Paddy, had long heard the stories of an amazing family tradition. It seems that his father, grandfather and great-grandfather had all been able to walk on water on their 18th birthday. On that special day, they'd each walked across the lake to the pub on the far side for their first legal drink. So when Paddy's, 18th birthday came 'round, he and his pal Mick, took a boat out to the middle of the lake, Paddy, stepped out of the boat ...and nearly drowned! Mick just barely managed to pull him to safety. Furious and confused, Paddy, went to see his grandmother. 'Grandma,' he asked, "It's my 18th birthday, so why can't I walk 'cross the lake like my father, his father, and his father before him?" Granny looked deeply into Paddy's, troubled brown eyes and said, "Because your father, your grandfather and your great grandfather... Read more →

"THE VIEW" GIRLS GET ANGRY

Image by Getty Images via @daylife Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on today's episode [click here] of "The View": Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck have been bashing the Catholic Church relentlessly over the past several years, all with the blessings of Barbara Walters, the show's co-producer. Yesterday, the gals were at it again, this time joined by their new convert, Sherri Shepherd. So I wrote a news release, asking our list of energized Catholics to contact the executive producer, Bill Geddie. Well, today their lid came off as one after another took to bashing me. Whoopi pleaded that she had made peace with God for her abortions. In all seriousness, I hope she was telling the truth. Behar tried to convince the audience that somehow she might still be a Catholic. But it's a little too late in the game to start reclaiming her former status: for... Read more →

Fallen Chicago Firefighters Mourned Following Tragedy | Firehouse.com

Corey Ankum and Edward Stringer were among a dozen firefighters putting out a blaze in an abandoned building at daybreak today when suddenly the roof gave way. Steven Ellerson, a 20-year veteran, and others swarmed inside to rescue them. "He heard someone calling for help and he looked for him," Ellerson's brother Maurice Matthews said. Ellerson found Ankum on the floor, gasping. "He found him and knew he was struggling to breathe so he took off his mask to give him some oxygen," Matthews said. "Corey's head was stuck somehow and they couldn't get him out. So my brother went to give him his coat but they came and got my brother out of there. My brother didn't want to leave him, but there was no choice. "It was a chaotic scene," Matthews said. "These guys put their lives on the line every day." DELIRIUM OVERCOMES "THE VIEW" GIRLS

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on today's episode of "The View" which featured a discussion about the Catholic Church and abortion: It is an ugly site: grown women sitting around bashing a religion that none belong to. Though at one time three did: Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are all ex-Catholics. They went bonkers today—the crosstalk makes them look downright delirious—ripping away about the Catholic Church because a nun was excommunicated for allowing an abortion at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. What they didn't say was that the nun gave her formal consent to the killing of an innocent child. More important, since none of the panelists are Catholic, it is none of their business anyway. The fact is (though one would never know it by watching this extended diatribe) the parent organization to this hospital, Catholic Healthcare West, has a long record of... Read more →

HUNTING AND FISHING NEWS compiled by CNBNews.net Notes from the Field by Gary Devine: Brother Paul caught another stripped Marlin in Capo, Mexico. His first one is mounted above his couch. A beautiful fish. They no longer kill the fish to be mounted. The boat captain takes measurements of the marlin and then releases it back into the water. The measurements go to the taxidermist. Bear hunt helped balance population, available habitat Saturday, December 18, 2010 SPECIAL TO THE TIMES According to opinion polls, the majority of New Jerseyans were in favor of the recent black bear culling that ended last Saturday. Even New Jersey's highest court supported the hunt by ruling that it is "a safe, legal and responsible use of wildlife resources, as well as a legitimate and effective means to control overabundant game species in a cost-effective manner." CANJ Applauds the State Senate for Bi-Partisan Effort to Create Jobs in Atlantic City

Legislation Would Provide Atlantic City Stakeholders with Vital Tools for Future Success Atlantic City (December 20, 2010) – The Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) applauds the Senate for passing a slate of legislation today that will be integral to revitalizing and expanding Atlantic City in the coming years. This legislation is the direct result of hard work on the part of Governor Christie, the New Jersey State Senate, and its leadership. The Senate and the Governor were able to create a bi-partisan legislative package that thoroughly addresses the state’s needs through their careful study of the myriad of issues Atlantic City faces in trying to attract more tourists and improve its marketing efforts. Their ability to craft a thoughtful compromise amongst the various stakeholders across the state illustrates how critical both this legislation and Atlantic City are to helping New Jersey grow its economy. “This legislation demonstrates a bi-partisan... Aqua String Band of Philadelphia Mummer's Fame Prepares for 90th Parade

photo Aqua String Band 2010 Mummers Parade The Aqua String Band will be parading in their 90th Mummers Day Parade this year. The Band was organized on April 2, 1920 by Elmer W. Leyrer and Fred J. Kesel, Sr. and incorporated into the String Band Association in 1945. It was Mr. Kesel who first introduced the glockenspiel (bells) into the Mummers' Parade where they have remained a constant fixture ever since. The name “Aqua” is a reflection on the life and times of the United States during the Band’s birth. Latin for the word water, "Aqua" was chosen as an ironic reference to the then raging controversy over Prohibition – “aqua” being the only legal drink at the time. The Band has never missed a New Year's Day Parade since the time they first stepped onto “The Street” (as Broad Street is familiarly known among those in the tradition); this... Read more →

Your Comments on Facebook are NOT PRIVATE!

BY BILL CLEARY For those who make comments on Facebook and think that what they wrote is private well I would suggest you read their Terms. And keep in mind that what you write is there for ever even after you remove it. Just do a Google search. Incidentally, Facebook states they have 100 million visitors a day; simply put that many people can access your thoughts. Specifically I draw your attention to # 4 When you publish content or information using the "everyone" setting, it means that you are allowing everyone, including people off of Facebook, to access and use that information, and to associate it with you (i.e., your name and profile picture). I have had three firemen contact me who posted their remarks on Facebook following the December 15 fire and asked that I remove their names and their comments from my article. Those comments were meant... Read more →

Man who Shot PA Hunter Faces Manslaughter; Coldwater Conservation School; Native Fish; Saltwater Registry Bill

HUNTING AND FISHING NEWS compiled by CNBNEWS.NET Lawyer charged with manslaughter in hunter’s death...Philadelphia Inquirer By Larry King INQUIRER STAFF WRITER Montgomery County attorney David M. Manilla faces involuntary manslaughter and firearms charges in connection with the Nov. 29 shooting death of a Bucks County deer hunter. In court records, investigators portray the fatal shooting of Barry Groh as a mixture of reckless hunting, disregard for firearms laws by a convicted felon, and after-the-fact deception by Manilla, 49, of Worcester, an attorney since 1992. The records also paint an unflattering picture of the three-man hunting party that included Manilla and his uncle, former Montgomery County District Attorney Michael D. Marino. A court affidavit said Manilla failed to render immediate aid to Groh after shooting him, that the men stood by and said nothing when paramedics initially misread Groh's death as being caused by a heart attack, and that they left...
