Attacked Pennsylvania Corrections Officer Dies: Officer.com

A Crawford County corrections officer died yesterday after being attacked by PoliceBadge-Mourning an inmate in October, according to The Erie Times-News.

Officer Cary M. Chapin, 49, was attacked by 24-year-old Gregory G. Brown on Oct. 13 at the correctional facility in Saegertown.

He did not regain consciousness following the attack and was pronounced dead at approximately 2:40 a.m. at the Wesbury United Methodist Community in Meadville.

The inmate was charged with aggravated assault, assault by a prisoner and reckless endangerment following the incident.

Officials are awaiting the results of an autopsy before determining whether additional charges will be filed.
