Michael Walters Independent Council Candidate List Ideas for Change in Gloucester City

My name is Michael Walters and I am running for City Council in the First Ward as an Images Independent. I am married with three children, and have lived in Gloucester most of my life. I am a retired firefighter due to a line of duty injury. I have also worked in the public housing industry.

Having worked in these fields I have been able to evaluate the good and bad of Gloucester City. There are a lot of good people in this town and I believe, with your help, we could change some of the bad into good. My wife, daughter and I have volunteered an immeasurable amount of hours to many of the great organizations, clubs and events in Gloucester City. It seems that many of these organizations, clubs and events have all but disappeared, such as the Fourth of July Parade. I feel that if we pull together we could bring our town back to life again.

What I will try and do for Gloucester City:

I will serve on Council for free and I will not sell back health benefits; I will do everything in my power to find ways to lower taxes; my first step is to not take any type of compensation for serving on council; I will work hard to sell all unused city properties, Housing Authority properties and vacant lands so we may earn tax monies. Gloucester should not be in the rental or real estate business; I will look into combining all city departments to one location to cut back on the upkeep of so many buildings. I would also want to install solar and wind power to help keep the energy cost down; I would like to see a community center built so residents of all ages could use it. This is something that would need the input of the residents of Gloucester; I will work to restructure all city departments so that they work more efficient, which in return saves the town money; I would like to see any unusable land used for wind and solar power. The monies made would help offset the taxes; and I believe that Gloucester needs more business where residents can find employment. I will work hard to make this happen.

Thank you, and I hope to serve you on City Council.
