Pet Tip of the Week

School for Dogs

Most folks agree that dogs need some type of training in order to become successful house pets. The cost of training may make families hesitate to adopt. But there are many ways in which you can train your dog and not have it cost an arm and a leg! Here are a few suggestions:

· Find a reputable trainer who is willing to work out a payment plan or

· Find a reputable trainer that charges by the class instead of by the program or

· Borrow a book on positive reinforcement training from the library and follow the recommendations and

· Teach your dog what pleases you with praise, repetition, & attention

Most dogs thrive on attention from their human counterparts. If you really cannot afford to hire a professional you may be able to achieve some success on your own. Just remember: aggression breeds aggression. If you punish your dog physically he will not trust you and may become defensive, so don’t do it! Instead, use positive training so that your dog will love and trust you. It will be worth the time and trouble when he becomes your family’s trusted, loyal companion!
