Alvin F. Wilke Jr., of Gloucester City, Knights of Columbus Council 674 Member
Alvin F. Wilke Jr., of Gloucester City, wWent to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Hospital of Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loving family. Age 66. Of Gloucester City.
Alvin was the son of Alvin F. and Mary (nee Kaufholz) Wilke, Sr. formerly of Audubon. He leaves his beloved wife of 42 years, Constance R. (nee Wojtkowiak), son Joseph A. Wilke of Maple Shade, daughter Suzanne R. McNally of Allentown, PA, grandchildren Alexander and Elysia McNally. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Mountainland of Surf City, NJ and several nieces and nephews.
Alvin was a graduate of Audubon High class of ’62. He earned a BA degree from William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa and he attended American University in Washington, D.C. majoring in mathematics. He was a mathematician for the Naval Weapons Laboratory in Dalgren, VA for several years. Then he decided to use his math skills as an auto mechanic. He worked at Jack’s Sunoco in Audubon, Avellino’s in Westmont, Mall Chevrolet in Cherry Hill and most recently at Pep Boys in Cinnaminson. Alvin attended Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Gloucester and most recently was a Parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in South Camden. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Gloucester, The Holy Name Society, Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Society, parish council and the Restoration Committee all of St. Joseph’s parish.
Alvin enjoyed his time as a volunteer for the Family Readiness Group for the 111th Fighter Wing, Willow Grove, PA. He derived great pleasure greeting the members as they returned from deployments and providing for the needs of their families. He especially enjoyed helping to provide Family Days and other parties for the members and their families.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his viewing on Friday evening from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday morning from 8:15 to 9:15 am at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street, (at Brown Street) Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church: 1010 Liberty Street, South Camden, NJ 08104. Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. Surrounded by his loving family on September 29, 2010. Age 51. Of Gloucester City. Formerly of Audubon Park. Loving and devoted husband of 31 years to Linda M. (nee Dyson). Loving father of Steve Jr., Maurice (Dana), Jennifer (Steven), Kristy (Rich) and Joshua (Jen). Loving grandfather of Jaden, Maurice Jr., Colin and Shayla. Son of Dolores (nee Snellbaker) and the late John R. Buri. Loving son-in-law of Lorraine Dyson and the late Maurice Dyson.
