Letter: Don't We Have A Right To Know?
Thursday, September 16, 2010
Dear Bill,
Tonight the Gloucester City Mayor and Council had their monthly caucus meeting which is at 7:00 p.m. at 313 Monmouth Street. A handful of residents came out for the meeting and were told that the meeting started at 5:00 p.m. and the public portion was ended. Acting City Clerk Kathy Jentsch said it was advertised in the Gloucester City News; however residents there did not recall seeing that in print.
In addition the governing body closed the meeting from Executive Session according to residents that were there. Under law they are required to come out of executive session to close the meeting. Why our municipal government is not following the law is besides me. Why is our government being so secret? What are they afraid about? As citizens of Gloucester City we all have a right to know what our elected officials are doing.
