By Bill Cleary WATERFRONT RESTAURANT ON HOLD AGAIN-Come to find out that Pat O'Donnell has backed out of the deal to build a restaurant on the pier at the old Coast Guard Base, King Street and the Delaware River. The recession is part of the reason I was told, Pat like the rest of us has lost money because of the economy. As such the City is back to square one and is advertising for RFP's (Request For Proposal) to get the project back on track. Do you know anyone with a lot of cash in the restaurant business? Only time will tell how long it will take to get a response to the RFP's. WE CAN DREAM: The world famous Gloucester House in Gloucester MA celebrates its 50 anniversary this year. FALL BOW SEASON BEGINS OCT. 2 New Jersey's regular Fall Bow deer hunting season kicks off statewide on Saturday, October 2 and extends through October 29. This season, Garden State bow hunters will benefit from another important regulation change, which comes on the heels of two changes implemented last season that significantly expanded bow hunting opportunities in our state. The expansion of bow hunting opportunities in New Jersey is gaining wide recognition through Whitetail Journal magazine, which recently chose the Garden State as one of the top five crossbow deer hunting states in the nation. Last season, bow hunting regulations were changed to allow the use of crossbows and to permit Sunday bow deer hunting on Wildlife Management Areas and private property. This season, the bow hunting safety zone distance was reduced from 450 feet to 150 feet through the Bowhunting Safety Zone Perimeter Bill. The safety zone distance reduction...

By Leigh Anne Hubbs NEWS Correspondent The Mt. Ephraim Board of Education voted 6-1 to stop charging for preschool during last week’s meeting. In the spring, members had voted to begin charging regular education preschool students $3,260 for the 2010-11 school year as a way to raise funds after state aid was reduced. Under state law, districts are required to provide free preschool for special education students. The main reason members suggested to discontinue charging tuition was because there were 42 students enrolled in 2009-10, and only 13 this year. Of those 13, only five are regular education students that are paying tuition. Board members said the rate of $3,260 for five days a week of half-day preschool is not competitive with other preschools/day cares in the area. But, they disagreed on whether or not to lower the tuition, or to remove it all together in order to encourage enrollment....

By Chris Concannon NEWS Correspondent The morning silence along Bell Road in Mt. Ephraim September 13 was broken around 7 a.m. by the sound of a running backhoe, as demolition began on the Mt. Ephraim Fire Department’s (Station 45) Bell Road Station. Station 45 Chief Brian Gilmore said the $3 million project, which they hope to have completed by mid- 2011 (weather permitting), also included a vacant home adjacent to the rear of the firehouse property. Gilmore said they, along with the Borough of Mt. Ephraim, purchased the home in 2003. The original building was built around 1927. Sacred Heart Church, now on Kings Highway, originally held services there. A second section for the ball-room was added in 1964. Gilmore and a few members were on hand as the backhoe continued to rattle and hum in the background, knocking down section after section of brick, mortar, steel and glass. “The...

I was asked to provide a campaign slogan for my campaign for Gloucester City Council, First Ward. The above phrase came to mind because no matter how one feels about how the city is progressing, we must always strive to do better and thus become greater. A Greater Gloucester City is where people who want to move, live, raise a family and conduct business. It is a place where people want to invest their time, energy and money, and a place where people want to have grown up and yes, grow old. A Greater Gloucester City provides optimal services so that the city looks its best, feels safe to its residents and welcoming to its visitors. This would encourage those looking to be homeowners to consider moving here. A Greater Gloucester markets its location convenient to Philadelphia, the airport and all of the major highways and promotes the town’s rich...

WHEN EAST MEETS WEST Commentary by Hank F. Miller Jr. In Dutch, Huis Ten Bosch, means "house in the woods." In Japan, it is a theme park with canals running through a spacious landscape surrounded by water and forest, with amusements, museums, shops of all kinds, restaurants, hotels and much more. photo: Hank and his wife Keiko at Huis Ten Bosch It was born in 1992 as a reproduction of a Dutch city of the Middle Ages. But why Holland, many people wonder. Over four centries ago, Nagasaki enjoyed with Holland, where over a third of the national land area was a tract of land reclaimed from the sea. Instead of competing with nature, people there learned to coexist in harmony with it. Just as the Dutch did in their homeland. We enjoyed a most wonderful visit. Great grandfathers watched as their friends died in the Civil War. My father watched as his friends died in WW II. And I watched as my friends died in Vietnam . None of them died for the Mexican Flag. Everyone died for the American flag. Texas high school students raised a Mexican flag on a school flag pole, other students took it down. Guess who was expelled...the students who took it down. California high school students were sent home on Cinco de Mayo, because they wore T-shirts with the American flag printed on them. Enough is enough. This message needs to be viewed by every American; and every American needs to stand up for America . We've bent over to appease the America-haters long enough. I'm taking a stand. I'm standing up because the hundreds of thousands who died fighting in wars for this country, and for the American flag....

By Raymond J. Rolak Autumn in Poland is a great time for tourism. The weather is pleasant and there are many harvest festivals. In the cities, summer hotel pressure is finished and the crowds have diminished. In the resort areas from Sopot to Gdansk (Baltic sea-shore) traffic has diminished. In the interior and folk country (rural) there is a saying. It is now the “Golden Time”. In America or Poland a Dozynki Festival always has color, music and dance. Photo courtesy of www.polishnews.com There is a short period of time every autumn in Poland called ‘Golden Polish Autumn’. According to custom the phrase comes from Wincenty Pol’s poem, “In the Autumn”. Golden Polish Autumn, (Złota Polska Jesień) – that’s the phrase commonly used to describe this season. Summer is gone, the winter is approaching but the weather is great now and it is time to celebrate and ejoy the colors....

- pressofAtlanticCity.com Nearby, 35 firefighters were finishing work on a devastating fire that burned dozens of people out of an Atlantic City rooming house. It was about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 29. That left only four firefighters to protect the rest of the city, he said, all of them on the west side of town in Chelsea Heights. Driving time to the far end of the city is more than 10 minutes without Saturday night traffic. The National Fire Protection Association standard calls for a response time of four minutes for the first arrival and eight minutes for a full crew. But the Memorial Avenue fire that burned 42 people out of their homes raises questions about department staffing, which has caused companies to close for most shifts this year as overtime was cut and 23 members retired. Another 30 members are set to be laid off Thursday. The fire also...

The Phillies have leaped over that segment of the schedule and now find themselves in position to aid their own cause. Philadelphia, winners of 11 straight games, are close to clinching a playoff spot and can start pondering the best way to set up their rotation. That point became clear earlier in the week, when the Phillies began mapping out their rotation for their final series against the Mets. Philadelphia reinserted Saturday starter Kyle Kendrick into the rotation between Joe Blanton (photo) and Cole Hamels, a procedural move that ensures an extra day of rest for the team's troika of experienced starters. As things stand, Kendrick will start Saturday's middle game against the Mets, and he'll be followed by Hamels in the series finale. The Phillies will...

With these new dog/human exercise rigs you can do that and more. Using any wheeled vehicle to road work your dog is a dicy matter since the dog is usually OUT FRONT or ALONG SIDE on a FLEXIBLE line connected to them at one point- thus allowing the dog to go where he wants within the length of that line- at angles away from your direction of travel- and when he reaches that unpredictable limit the force on your trajectory is shocking- the chances are this WILL at some point cause injury to the owner AND dog. BROADWAY GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ 08030 856-456-3838 After purchasing one of the favorite dining spots in the city, new owners Tom and Louie renovated the restaurant with new flooring, new kitchen ovens and sinks and still preserved the clean, inviting and wholesome friendly atmosphere of the original pub that has served its customers since 1923. The painting includes every U.S. President, with conservative presidents on one side and liberals on the other, "I'm not saying these are your innocent presidents and these are the guilty, because a lot of them have done things that in a sense have trampled the Constitution," said McNaughton. And President Obama right in front...
