A Delta-Cardiff volunteer firefighter died on Aug. 23 after suffering a massive heart attack after a shift the previous day, according to the USFA.
Firefighter Douglas Farrington, who was also the president of the department, responded to the station to man a backup engine as the fire company responded to a barn fire in Peach Bottom Township in York County, Pa. He assisted in cleaning the rig and putting away equipment when it returned and went home at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The following morning he reported to duty at his full-time job as a fire inspector for the Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire Department in Aberdeen, Md., but would soon return to home in Pennsylvania where he would suffer a fatal heart attack at approximately 11:16 a.m.
Visitation for Farrington will be held on Thurs., Aug. 26 from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Delta-Cardiff Fire House, 500 Main St. in Delta, Pa.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Mason-Dixon Fairgrounds, 6988 Delta Road in Delta, Pa.
