Hundreds of local residents converged on the Bellmawr Recreation Center August 3, as Bellmawr hosted its Seventh Annual National Night Out.
Part of an ever-growing nationwide effort to educate the public on ways to prevent crime in their neighborhoods, Bellmawr’s version was hosted, as always, by the Bellmawr Police Department. The weather conditions were very favorable, as a light breeze kept everyone cool – a marked change from the incinerator-like heat and humidity of past Night Out events.
Several displays were available for people to see, courtesy of the Bellmawr Fire Department, Zone 5 (Police) Tactical Task Force, as well as Camden County Canteen 2. Many police officers, firefighters and EMTs were standing by to answer any questions posed them by those in attendance.
Mister Softee handed out free ice cream, compliments of the Bellmawr Democrat Club.
Hot dogs, pretzels and other refreshments, were available for a very reasonable fee. MainStage Center for the Arts provided entertainment for the evening, performing show tunes along with several contemporary selections. The Bellmawr Board of Education provided a huge display of student art projects, as well as face painting.
Bellmawr Park School Principal Elizabeth Calabria commented on the community turnout, adding it was great to see so many of them come out for “such a wonderful event.”
Bellmawr schools were well represented, with administrators and teachers alike, taking time to reach out to the general populace.
On behalf of the Bellmawr Police Department, Chief Bill Walsh would like to thank the following companies and organizations, for their generous sponsorship and donations to the event:
ANA Laboratories, Carmen’s Deli, Bellmawr Board of Education, Dietz and Watson, Bellmawr Democrat Club, Hot Diggity Dog, Bellmawr Municipal Alliance, TD Bank (Bellmawr branch), Bellmawr Park Mutual Housing Corp., The Bank (Bellmawr branch), Bellmawr Rec-reation Department, The Sprinkler Company, Bellmawr Senior Housing, Walsh Truck Lettering, Bottom Dollar Foods, Wonder Bread, Brown’s Shop Rite (Brooklawn).
