Barth – Mc Carthy Wiffleball Reunion

Saturday, September 4, 2010

The 21st Brooklawn Reunion is back and better than ever. This year, to honor long time Baseballequipment contributors to the reunion, the tournament has been renamed after Bob Barth and Dan McCarthy.

Wiffleball Commissioner Austin Darrow has announced special shirts will be available for sale honoring both Barth and Mc Carthy. “Their commitment to the Reunion was longer than I’ve been alive and this small token of appreciation I hope will show everyone what they meant to our Reunion,” says Darrow.

Rules interpreter Colin MacAdams has been looking at possible rule changes which may

contribute to a more challenging tournament. “With changes comes confusion so I hope everyone understands, I am mulling over POSSIBLE changes and NOTHING has currently CHANGED,” stated MacAdams. A few changes may be the new -  Unitas Rule:  Must be 30 years old by May 1 of current year (Little League Rule) or drop the age to 25 years to expand the competition or move the age forward to 35 years old to be able to pitch. Overall most of the rules will remain unchanged. The screen behind home plate will be moved back 6” to allow more room to swing. This will bring the overall distance from the mound to the screen to 43.5 feet.

“We want nothing but the best Tournament around. We want it to be fun, competitive and family oriented all at the same time. A team like Calzonnetti, Spingler and Eliasen on paper look to challenge; but are put in a weak bracket to help out some good guys. Others like the Little League squad with Unitas, Alkins and Dunn spend the day fighting amongst themselves and any potential they may have is neutralized by this. Then factor in family teams – MacAdams, Mondiles and Nortons and you understand why they play on family teams and this weakness makes it difficult to match up. Then we have to balance in the real threats of the Gartlands and defending Champions McCarthy along with crying Joe Scully, and we cannot forget the team of Al Countryman; with these challenges you have one outstanding Tournament,” Erin Mac Adams Assistant Commissioner said.

This year is a little different then years past with the perks. A lunch ticket will be provided to players to use at GAETANO’S, one of our sponsors, with choices ranging from hoagies to chicken tenders to pizza.  Our annual block party has been moved to the Brooklawn Fire House from 3pm to 7pm and players and guests will have a hand stamp to allow entrance to the party. Some changes had to be made to keep everything under control since the venue was moved to another location.

Wiffleball Reunion looks forward to another great day of family and fun.
