Robert L. Ireton, of Brooklawn, former First National Bank President, member of Merrill’s Marauders, Purple Heart and Silver Star Recipient

IRETON, Robert L., of Brooklawn, NJ, 93, passed away on June 8, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was a loving and devoted family man. An active man, Robert spent many of his days on the golf course and enjoyed his time spent with family down at the shore. Born in Camden, NJ, Robert was a longtime resident of Wildwood Crest and North Cape May. Prior to retiring, Robert was President of First National Bank of Stone Harbor for over 25 years. He was Past President and member of the Rotary in Wildwood and Master Mason of the USS New Jersey Lodge 62. He proudly served his country during World War II. During his time in the Army from 1942 –1953, he served during the Burma Campaign, part of the Merrill's Marauders where he received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.

Beloved husband of the late Elsie L. (nee Wilson); loving father of Michael J. (Kathryn) and Janice L. (Dmitri "Jim") Matishen; devoted grandfather of Jason, Melissa (Rudy), Amy (Ted), Jamie, Karen, Nicole, Matthew and 5 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, June 26, 10 – 11 AM, at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury, NJ, where Robert's Memorial Service will follow at 11 AM. Interment will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Feed the Children, PO Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101-9989. Memories may be shared at www.mcgfuneral.com.
