MaryEllen Neilio formerly of Gloucester City; God and Her Family Meant Everything
Monday, June 28, 2010
NEILIO—MaryEllen (nee Hurff) on her birthday, June 26, 2010 surrounded by her family
and faithful companion, Spencer. She was 73.
A family centered, intelligent and spiritual woman; MaryEllen possessed a strong knowledge of the world around her and was able to see everyday things in a unique and special way. "You belong to God, then you belong to yourself and then you belong to me.", was a familiar saying; often repeated to MaryEllen's children growing up. She saw God in everything around her.
Transforming items others thought were trash into works of creative art was something that came easily to MaryEllen. While her husband tended to the vegetables, her charge over the beautiful flower gardens was a chore of love.
MaryEllen was born in Camden, was raised in Gloucester City, graduated from High School there as well as Gloucester County Community College. A resident of this area for most of her life, living in the Outer Banks of North Carolina will always be a very special time to her. Spending time with her family was always paramount to her; however, time with her friends and animals, painting, reading or scouting out items at yard sales and thrift stores were things that brought her great joy.
She is the beloved wife of 53 years to Charles T. Neilio; devoted mother of Charles L., Edward J. (Kathy), Susan Hoffman (Jeff) and Michelle Vayo (Walt); loving sister of Carol Ritchie; loving grandmother of Rachel, Danielle, Morgan, Lauren, Ellen, Eddie, Michael, Chris, Matt and the late Laura ("God, bless her soul.") and great grandmother of Jameson and Jude.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Thurs. 6:30-9 PM and Fri. 9-9:45 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Rd., Washington Twp., where a Lifetime Tribute Service will be celebrated Fri. 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Gloucester County Animal Shelter, 1200 N. Delsea Dr., Clayton, NJ 08312.
