Independent Candidate Nick Schultz Will Challenge Mayor James in November

Although Gloucester City Democrats ran unopposed in the Primary, they will face opposition in the General Election.

The same is true in Bellmawr, although Republicans did not put up a slate in either municipality.

Independent candidates filed to run in the November Election in both towns.

GLOUCESTER CITY

Winning the June 8 Primary Election in Gloucester City were incumbent Democratic Mayor William James, incumbent Councilwoman Kellie Ferry (Ward 3), and incumbent Councilmen John Hutchinson (Ward 1) and Bruce Parry (Ward 2).

Challenging James for the four-year term as mayor will be Independent Nicholas Schultz, running under the slogan “Save Our City.”  Schultz is a paid city firefighter one of the 8 firemen that received a layoff notice effective July 1.

In the race for a three-year City Council seat in Ward 1, Hutchinson will be challenged by both Independent David Townsend (“Greater Gloucester City”) and Independent Michael Walters (“Putting People First”).

Ferry and Parry will run unopposed for two, three-year seats on Council.

BELLMAWR

Running unopposed were incumbent Democratic Mayor Frank Filipek, incumbent

Councilman Peter DiGiambattista and David Duncan.

Independent Donald J. Bowers will challenge Filipek for the four-year term as mayor.

Independent Daniel M. Capobianco Jr. will challenge Duncan and DiGiambattista for two, three-year terms on Borough Council.

BROOKLAWN

Running unopposed in the November General Election will be incumbent Democrat Borough Councilwoman Theresa Branella for a three-year term.

MOUNT EPHRAIM

There are no local seats up in the General Election.

WESTVILLE

Running unopposed were Incumbent Democrat May-or Russell Welsh Jr. and Democratic Councilpersons Colleen Archer and William Packer III. No Republicans filed.

CAMDEN COUNTY

FREEHOLDERS

Running unopposed for two seats on the Camden County Board of Freeholders were Democrats Edward McDonnell and Carmen Rodriguez.

They will face Republicans George Zallie and Scot De Cristofaro, who defeated Joseph Hughes, Gene Mignogna, Frank Snyder, Bernard Shuster, Keith Beebe Jr. and John Ruschak in the Primary.

SURROGATE

Incumbent Democrat Patricia Egan Jones will face Republican Christine Le-one-Zwillinger in the General Election.

STATE SENATE

FIFTH DISTRICT

Democrat Donald Norcross will face Republican Harry Trout for an unexpired term.

STATE ASSEMBLY

FIFTH DISTRICT

Democrat Gilbert Wilson will face Republican Barbara Gallagher in the November Election.

U.S. CONGRESS

FIRST DISTRICT

Incumbent Democrat Robert Andrews defeated John Caramanna in the Primary, and will face Republican Dale Glading, who defeated Lee Lucas, Loran Oglesby and Fernando Powers.

The General Election this year will be on Tuesday, November 2.
