Many are not clear on who and what the Gloucester High Alumni Association is and what it does. It is a group of approximately fifteen people who at one time attended Gloucester High.
Some live in town and others have moved away. All are volunteers giving freely of their time, expertise and financial support over the past fourteen plus years.
The committee organizes fund raisers like beef and beer style socials, golf outings and other events in order to raise money for Gloucester High graduates to be used for their college tuition.
Since its inception the associations has given approximately one hundred thousand dollars to graduating seniors.
In May, this committee organized a fund raiser held at the high school auditorium consisting of a Vegas Style review with a Rod Stewart and Cher impersonator. With the proper support from the community it had the capability of raising in the area of ten thousand dollars all of which would have been donated to this years graduating class.
However, there was little to no support by the community and consequently it lost money that will unfortunately be taken from the alumni funds.
There is also an Alumni News letter published three times a year for a cost of seven dollars. This keeps the reader up to date with local happenings and gives you an opportunity to give your input with articles of your choosing.
Anyone interested in our news letter (and many of you should be supporting this organization) please contact us.
We are asking the parents, grandparents and the one hundred past recipients of these alumni donations to get involved. Sign up for the news letter, attend and support the social events and come to our alumni meetings held the second Monday of each month at the high school library at 7 p.m.
As a side note, the Cher/Rod Stewart show was fantastic.
Signed, A GHS Alumni
